Vidhi Thukral
Vidhi Thukral is a driven legal professional specializing in environmental law with a strong foundation in corporate governance.
Currently she holds the position of Head: ESG at Axis Max Life Insurance where she spearheads ESG initiatives, demonstrating her evolved focus on integrating sustainability principles within the financial sector. Her responsibility encompasses developing and overseeing ESG policies, engaging with stakeholders on sustainability matters, ensuring compliance with relevant ESG reporting standards and driving initiatives that contribute to environmental stewardship, social responsibility and robust corporate governance within the organisation.
Her academic journey reflects a commitment to both legal and commercial understanding, holding an LL.M. in Environmental Law, Energy and Climate Change from Jindal Global Law School and WWF India (a joint program in New Delhi), which she pursued from August 2019 to July 2020. Prior to this specialized degree, Vidhi obtained her LL.B. from Jindal Global Law School, graduating in July 2016. Her academic portfolio also includes a B.Com (Hons.) from Maitreyi College, University of Delhi (2010), and successful completion of the Company Secretary certification from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India in July 2012.
Her professional experience showcases a progressive trajectory in diverse legal and regulatory environments. From November 2018 to October 2019, Vidhi served as an Assistant Legal Consultant at the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) in New Delhi. During this tenure, she was involved in handling city gas and other gas-related matters before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL), the designated tribunal for petroleum and natural gas issues. Prior to her role at PNGRB, Vidhi spent a significant period, from January 2017 to October 2018, as a Legal Assistant within the Impact Assessment- Mining Division of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) in New Delhi. This experience provided her with deep insights into environmental law, particularly concerning the mining sector. She actively participated in proceedings before the National Green Tribunal (Principal Bench), the High Court of Delhi, and the Supreme Court. Notably, she extensively assisted the Ministry in handling two landmark Supreme Court mining cases: Common Cause v. Union of India (2017) and Goa Foundation v. M/s Sesa Sterlite Ltd (2018).
Vidhi’s diverse experiences across regulatory bodies, governmental ministries, and the corporate sector, coupled with her specialized education in environmental law and her qualifications, position her as a well-rounded and capable ESG practitioner with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate governance in India.
