‘SABERA Awards reaffirm what is Good for India is Good for Businesses at Large’ Sanjeev Mehta, CEO & MD Hindustan Unilever  Limited.

Themed ‘ESG Walk The Talk’, the fifth consecutive edition of Social and Business Enterprise Responsible Awards & Summit, सबेरा SABERA 2022, concluded during an impressive Gala event hosted at the UNESCO building today.

Organized by the Simply Suparnaa © Media Network, a UN Women 2021 Awardee, Suparnaa Chadda, Founder Curator, सबेरा SABERA said “SABERA as a platform aims to catalyze the transformative journey of the nation. Stories of Impact that make India shine are a win-win both for Large businesses as well as Grassroot organizations.”

The theme of this year ‘ESG Walk The Talk, emphasized the shifting focus of large corporates from mere profit-oriented operations to

Raj Mariwalainitiatives creating a larger social impact. In a free-wheeling conversation with Suparnaa Chadda, Founder Curator SABERA,  Raj Mariwal, Director Mariwala  Health Initiative shared ‘Businesses and philanthropy must recognize that we have a responsibility toward social justice and humanity. We must all hold ourselves accountable. To this end, it is my hope that platforms such as SABERA help us to keep questioning ourselves and learning together.

 

The event gala was anchored by a class Nine student from the Voice of Slum, Palak Kumari. The audience was particularly enthralled by the performances of the children from the NGO Dance Out of Poverty.

Ms Renu Sud Karnad, MD HDFC Bank Ltd., chaired the robust jury of noted personalities also present through the event including Shivam Puri- CEO CIPLA Health; Meenakshi Gupta- Co-Founder Goonj;  Deepak Bagla, CEO of Invest India; Kiran DM, CEO ONGC Foundation; Garima Singh- Chief Government Affairs & Communications Officer Pepsico India

Also seen where the sustainability, ESG & CSR heads of companies who also screened the entries received this year including Dr. Lopamudra Priyadarshini- GM CSR & Sustainability Aditya Birla Group; Tanu Kathuria- ER & CSR Leader Birlasoft; Preeti Binoy, Head Corporate communications – Kimberley Clark, Nixon Joseph, CEO CLT, Abhishek Ranjan- Sustainability head Brillio, Prateek Sengupta- Associate Director ESG & Sustainability Indigo and Kiran Sarkar, Head Sustainability M&M (Auto &Farm).

The annual event attracted nationwide participation from the country’s biggest corporates, most impactful non-profits, and inspiring individuals. The awards acknowledged stories of impact and development aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the Environment Social and Governance (ESG) Principles. There were a record number of entries received for three main categories acknowledging SDG & ESG aligned initiatives, entities, and individuals.

A total of 42 award certificates have been conferred including 10 Jury Commendations to encourage GOOD work.

The winners covered a wide spectrum of work in alignment with SDG and ESG principles. सबेरा SABERA recognized businesses as well as third-sector champions including NGOs and individuals. Winners of the Responsible Business category included Dabur India Ltd., Good Earth, and Bharat Petroleum Company Limited.  Non Profits such as SACH were awarded for their work in creating self-sustainable communities in rural and urban slums. Individuals such as Rachna R (Chiranthana), Dr. Neelam Gupta (AROH Foundation), Vidya Rajput (Chhatisgarh Mitwa Sankalp Samiti), Rakesh Khatri (Eco Roots), Mayan Tiwari (Reshamandi) and Meetali Sinha (Under the tree) were acknowledged for their passion and commitment to their chosen fields which ranged from the education of the underprivileged or special children, mainstreaming the third gender, enabling artisans and or creating habitats for the declining sparrow population.

A new Category of behavioral change through marketing communication was introduced that acknowledges inspiring campaigns of ThumsUp (The Coca-Cola Company) and TVS Raider (TVS Motors) besides nonprofit Tarachand Ramnath Seva Trust for their work in promoting De-addiction amidst youth. Other winners include Vedanta Foundation, PVR Nest, L&T Finance Holdings, Swades Foundation, SBI Foundation, Bharti Foundation, and BALCO alongside smaller nonprofits such as Sanjeevani Life beyond Cancer, Bansi Vidya Memorial Trust, Sinhayana Foundation, Samarpan Foundation, Udyama, NCPEDP, Prashanthi Blamandir trust, and TEEIDI.
