Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Sai Gram, where the remarkable work of the SABERA Awardee Prashanthi Balamandir trust was in full display. It was truly heartening to witness the profound impact of their efforts firsthand and interact with the beneficiaries of their initiatives. One particular individual who stood out was Deepa L, a master’s student in English at the same college where her father works as a security guard. Deepa’s journey as the first generation literate exemplifies the transformative power of education and the values instilled by organizations like the SABERA Awardee Prashanthi Balamandir Trust.

Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence:
During my visit, I also had the privilege of interacting with students at the Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence (part of the trust), many of whom are the first literates in their families. This fact alone was inspiring, highlighting the transformative impact that education can have on breaking the cycle of illiteracy. Furthermore, it was a moment of immense pride when the Honourable President of our country, Draupadi Murmu, graced the university with her presence. President Murmu, herself a first-generation literate, emphasized that today our daughters are making extensive contributions in every sphere of life.

Women Empowerment:
President Murmu’s presence and her acknowledgment that around 66 percent of the university’s students are girls spoke volumes about the progress our country is making. She expressed her confidence in the potential of women, stating that by embracing modern values while upholding strong traditions, women can play a pivotal role in the country’s development. It was truly empowering to witness a leader recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women, highlighting the changing landscape of our nation.

State-of-the-Art Hospital Inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi:
Furthermore, I made it a point to visit the state-of-the-art hospital at Sai Gram which is also part of the Prashanthis Balamandrir trust and was recently inaugurated by our esteemed Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The hospital not only offers free healthcare services but also aims to provide educational opportunities in the near future.   Seen here with Deepa at the Blood Bank of the hospital, rendering services & medicines in the remote hinterlands of Karnataka to the most marginalized free of cost.

The work of these leaders and the impact their organizations are making is whetted by a Robust jury through the 2 tier annual awards process that recognizes GOOD. Work that is putting India on the road to development. Either as ESG-aligned entities, SDG Aligned Initiatives, or Social Impact Leaders.
