Dr. Sunil Shroff: A Pioneering Figure in Organ Donation

One of the esteemed awardees is Dr. Sunil Shroff, the founder of MOHAN Foundation, who has revolutionized deceased organ donation in India. His innovative approach to creating an ‘Indian Model’ for successful organ donation has reached over 20 million people, providing life-saving transplant information to those in need. As a skilled surgeon, he has performed over 30,000 urologic surgeries, including an impressive 700 kidney transplants, making him a pioneer in the country’s deceased donor kidney transplantations.

What sets Dr. Shroff apart is his commitment to ensuring that almost 50% of the surgeries conducted are either free or heavily subsidized through MOHAN Foundation. His vision reflects the cycle of life, where a tragedy on one end can lead to the salvation of life on the other. His efforts have resulted in saving thousands of lives and giving hope to countless families.

 

Nand Kishore Chaudhary: Empowering Indian Weavers and Artisans

Nand Kishore Chaudhary, the recipient of the SABERA Lifetime Achievement Award, has dedicated his life to empowering Indian weavers in the hand-knotted rug industry. Despite facing numerous challenges and social ostracization, Nand Kishore immersed himself in the lives of artisans to uplift them and their artistry. Today, he empowers over 40,000 artisans, most of whom are women, across five states.

The luxury brand he created now boasts a staggering turnover of over INR 1000 Cr, showcasing how a profit-making venture can also serve society and lay the foundation for impactful social enterprises.

Ruby Ahluwalia: Empathetic Support for Cancer-Afflicted Individuals and Families

Ruby Ahluwalia, a SABERA Awardee and former bureaucrat, experienced a life-changing moment when she was diagnosed with cancer. Instead of succumbing to adversity, she emerged stronger and more determined to help marginalized families battling the disease. Through her organization, Ruby provides counseling, nutrition, and unwavering support to families on their cancer journey.

Her commitment to helping others navigate through the hardships of cancer showcases the transformative power of compassion and empathy.

Utsow Pradhan: Transforming Darjeeling’s Villages into Sustainable Forest Gardens

Meet Utsow Pradhan, the visionary founder of TIEEDI, a grassroots organization working towards making each village in Darjeeling zero waste. By adopting permaculture solutions, responsible tourism, and promoting experiential environmental education, TIEEDI is making a profound impact on the region’s ecosystem. The organization’s efforts have resulted in clearing rivers and reviving the bee population through the adoption of native wisdom.

TIEEDI’s journey, from a dump yard with plastic-wrapped tree roots to a vibrant forest garden, is a testament to the power of dedicated grassroots efforts in creating a sustainable future.

The entries for सबेरा SABERA 2023 will evaluate work executed between 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023. There are NO Registration Fees. Early Bird only entry fees are only for the month of July.

Suparnaa is the founder of the Simply Suparnaa © Media Network The  Network consciously works toward creating a positive narrative away from sensationalism. Suparnaa uses her versatile experience in media to curate SABERA. Amidst others,  the network stands for causes enabling gender sensitivity and actively conducts workshops on menstrual hygiene through its non-profit arm, Woman Endangered. Suparnaa has also been conducting workshops with students across states on Violence against women along with JOSH TALKS. The network strongly believes that leadership and spirituality are interconnected and have the potential to bring a larger change in society. It has been recognized by the UN Women as an SME Champion.
